Lucien-André Ragot, born july 8th, 1930 in Mirecourt (Vosges), France, a city of luthiers and born within a family of luthiers: his father, also named Lucien-André Ragot was a Master Luthier, demonstrated by the confidence that the great Pablo Casals had in him. Lucien learnt his trade through an apprenticeship with his father after having relocated to Céret(south of France), fleeing from the German occupation. He married a woman of Spanish decent from the region of Aragon and had four children: Bernard, Jean-Louis, François y Daniel. He has participated in different expositions such as: The Munich Expo, the Chamber of trades of the Pyrenees (France) exposition and the "Village Catalan" exposition sponsored by the area " Porta de França" on the inter-European hyghway "La Catalane". Apart from the luthier trade, we highlight his life-long musicial colaborations with different regional groups playing the double bass and the violin. One can hear him nowadays playing in the second violin section of the Orchestre d'Amateurs de Perpignan. He has made a considerable number of violins, some violas, cellos and a double bass. They are instruments that are primarily based on the forms of the great Giusseppe Guarneri( del Gesú). They have a beautiful sound and are easily played. Upon the completion of his 100th violin, Mr. Ragot started naming his violins with the names of the towns in the region of Aragon where he and his wife have family ties. One of his latest instruments is a 5- string cello made for his son ,François Ragot, a cellist of great talent, well known and respected in the south of France.
Lucien-André Ragot, father and son appear in the " Diccionaire Universel des Luthiers" written by René Vannes.
